Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne has split from his wife of 26 years for another woman.

The newly appointed Lib Dem energy and climate change secretary, who played a major role in negotiations to form a coalition government, is separating from wife Vicky because of a ''serious relationship'' with another woman, he said today.

''I am in a serious relationship with Carina Trimingham and I am separating from my wife,'' the senior Liberal Democrat MP announced.

The multi-millionaire, a former journalist who wrote for national newspapers, went on to work as a city economist before moving into politics.

Mr Huhne confirmed the split from his high-flyer economist wife Vicky Pryce this afternoon. They had married in 1984.

The couple have three children together plus two more from Ms Pryce’s previous marriage.

Mr Huhne, 56, was elected MP for Eastleigh in 2005 and extended his majority in the general election in May.

Ms Trimingham, a former journalist who works in PR, was part of Mr Huhne's campaign team when he took on Nick Clegg for the party leadership in 2007.

I voted for this guy. I remember him being pictured with his family and thinking they've obviously gone for the honest family man angle. Yet again behind the scenes this isn't the case and as another poster said none of this came out before the election. I don't think I would have voted for him had I known he'd been having an affair for some time.

So much for loyalty! I wonder what he was up to whilst electioneering? One does wonder if an awful lot of time and expense was used to extend his interests of womanizing? What goes around comes around Mr. Huhne. I fear a lot of time is wasted visiting one's lay of the day and only half a mind on his work. Mrs. Huhne, don't cry for him, he's not worth it.

DCM - you say you don't recall Chris Huhne campaigning on family values. Perhaps you missed the leaflet he sent out throughout Eastleigh this spring with photos of him with his wife (on their wedding day no less), bottle-feeding one of his kids etc. Going on about having five kids, one grandchild and having been happily married for 26 years. He also made a video espousing family relationships as the most important thing in life. All of that content can be seen online at: http://tinyurl.com/2
7uep7 This was worse than hypocrisy. He was cynically abusing his family to get re-elected all while having a clandestine affair with his paid PR gal. (Claimed on expenses? We wait to see). He cheated on his wife, his family and his constituents. He should resign his seat immediately.

i very much agree with you on the pay scale, the TUSC made it into there manifest that any elected member would do the job on a working mans wage, any thing left over each year would off gone to some good cause, they would not claim any expensive also, they would off been there to work for the people and not there for the power or money. its part off the people charter before the election they ask every mp if they agreed to it and sign it, only 4 labour mp's did, and those 4 mp's got relected back in with a greater majority. this people charter is all ready part off the next manifest for the next general election.
so if you see a TUSC or the Socialist Party or a Socialist Alliance or Repect party on your ballot sheet then you will know they will do just what your asking, on pay and perks and expensive,s.

dont hold your breath, the torys and lib/dem have change how the vote off no confidence works, its no longer 50/50, its now 53% of the votes needed to vote a government out in the house off commons, if they are so willing to do this just so they can stay in power, then your not going to see any by-election that would risk them losing a vote of no confidence, so they will not keep that promise of the public being able to sack there mp.

Whether or not any of those who have commented have had an affair or a divorce, I doubt very much that any of them have claimed that they have a strong marriage so that people would vote for them and so further their careers.
Huhne has, by making that claim, deceived his wife, his family and the electorate.

we are all inbreeds, we all share the same DNA with a little bit off nature freaks to thrown in. and if the DNA trackers are right then we all came from the same female ape, whitch was a freak of nature in it self.
think about it a lot longer than you have.

I already guessed you were inbred, but please don't compare others to your standards, it's not clever or smart!
When you can determine the difference between of and off please feel free to comment on me!
In the meantime feel free to interbreed with whom ever you wish!

thats just it you are an inbreed just has much as any one else. we all have this one bit of DNA that comes from one female great ape. and for the worlds population to be the number it is and not gone into extinction then inbreeding took place.
so before you try to insult people take this into a account

It's just time for Huhne to do the right thing and resign. Is he going to put pix of his new "bird" on his next election flyers? I somehow doubt it. Prince Chris's Camilla... I don't think so. All the Labour voters who helped him win in May would rather back a Tory now than Huhne. So he should just resign now and be done with it. Give the people of Eastleigh a decent MP who won't cancel constituency surgeries in order to have a bit of rumpo...

What a motley crew are most politicians. Say one thing and do another -- they can't seem to set an example to the rest of us, can they? They must be an embarrassment to their leaders, a bit like the England team.

well if you took the time spot read the posts. i was not being rude. hantslad was trying to be rude, so i just pointed out a fact to him/her.
and if you think its wrong then go and have a chat with the DNA trackers and tell them. plus i know there are many on here that will agree to that it is fact, that we all did come from one single female great ape, so that makes all imbreeds. plus the freaks off nature whitch is called evolution, and is what got us down from the trees.

Just typical of the ConDem government with a complete dis-respect for family values and standards.
.
In a little over 4 weeks we have had one fiddling expenses, Nokes fiddling with something else and now Huhne commiting more sleazy actions.
.
They are a lousy bunch and just about deserve each other......but this Country does not deserve or need them....
.
Resign Nokes and Huhne before you bring complete contempt on you constituents and the electorate as a whole.

Well I hope all of you that voted for the lib dems and Mr Huhne feel proud that despite being told about his lies, you still voted for him. This man disgusts me and based most of his campaign on what the conservatives wouldnt do rather than what he would do. Dont go moaning about the state of this country over the next year, you brought it on yourselves. Labour as always messed up the economy, and now we have a government beholden to these lib dem idiots. I feel sorry for Huhne's wife and feel disgusted this liar managed to convince so many people to vote for him.
