VIVA Espana or Hup Holland Hup?

That is the question on the lips of thousands of Hampshire football fans ahead of tonight’s World Cup final clash between Spain and Holland.

Salterns Working Men’s Club in Warsash will be transformed into an outpost of the Netherlands as more than 50 Dutch fans watch the game.

Armed with clogs, orange shirts, Dutch beer, vuvuzelas and more flags than you can shake a tulip at, members of the Southampton Anglo Dutch Association are planning to paint the pub orange during the game.

Christiene White, 40, who works at the Netherlands consulate in Hythe, said: “Holland of course is going to win because they are the best team in the world. They are just a little country but they have something to prove.

“I think it’s gong to be 2-1 to Holland. I think everything will be covered in orange when we are there.”

But Spain also have their fans.

Spaniard Aurelio Bello, from Southampton, says his country will taste victory so he can celebrate with some vino and tapas.

Aurelio, 55, from Harefield, a shipbuilding materials marshal with VT Group, said: “I think we are lucky enough to have the best players in the world at the moment and they will do it on the night. I hope that it’s going to be 2-1 by Villa and Torres.

“I’m not a drinker but if Spain win I might have a few glasses of wine.”

As Euro 2008 champions Spain are the bookies’ favourites and have also been boosted after they were picked as winners by the psychic octopus Paul.

The underwater creature, which was born at Weymouth Sealife Centre but now lives in Germany, has become a sensation by correctly predicted all Germany’s tournament results.
