A Hampshire hospital has one of the lowest death rates in Britain, health chiefs heard.
It comes after the mortality rate at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester rose for five successive months between April and August 2010.
Winchester and Eastleigh Healthcare NHS Trust checked the situation in case anything was wrong.
Board members heard at their meeting on Wednesday that it was pure coincidence, and the number was now falling.
In fact, for the current month it has a score of 73.8 in national tables, with 100 being average, and more than that being too high. Last month, the Royal Hampshire County Hospital was one of only two in Britain praised for its mortality rates in the Dr Foster Hospital Guide.
