HUNDREDS of homes could be built on the edge of the New Forest under proposals put forward today.

The district council has published a draft document that pinpoints possible sites for housing in urban and semi-rural areas surrounding the national park. At least 205 homes could be built in parts of Totton, including including Durley Farm in Hounsdown and land north of Loperwood Lane, Calmore.

In nearby Marchwood the document clears the way for 100 properties to be constructed on land at Park’s Farm.

Several sites in Hythe have also been earmarked for residential development, including Cabot Drive and land between Jones Lane and Southampton Road.

As reported in the Daily Echo, a site at Frost Lane, Hythe, could also disappear beneath bricks and mortar.

Twelve homes could spring up on land rented by Barry Bevis as a home for his collection of animals, including goats, pigs and donkeys. More than 1,000 people have joined an Internet campaign to save the site, known as Barry’s Field, from developers.

Other proposals include a cycleway between Totton and Marchwood.
