Passengers arriving at Southampton airport touched down to the sound of music yesterday.
Fly Away Mozart was the result of collaboration between students from Woodlands Community College, the London Mozart Players (LMP) orchestra and composer Michael Omer.
The college students visited the airport in October to experience the sights and sounds of the terminal building and arrivals hall.
They spent the following month working with musicians from the LMP and Mr Omer to compose a score to mark the birth date of Mozart in 1756.
The 15-minute piece took inspiration from Geoff Wellum, the youngest Spitfire pilot in the Battle of Britain, Mozart’s music and the story of Edwin Moon, Southampton’s first pioneer aviator.
