TWO people escaped serious injury after the car they were travelling in veered off the road, crashing into a ditch.

The Mitsubishi L200 was seen going out of control on the eastbound A31 through the New Forest at 8.45am yesterday.

It flipped on to its roof and plunged down the embankment by the side of the carriageway at Castle Malwood Hill, just before the start of the M27 at Cadnam.

Two people were in the car but escaped without serious injury. A woman was taken to Southampton General Hospital as a precaution.

Police later closed the inside lane temporarily while the car was recovered from the scene.
