A PARAMEDIC told jurors that a man accused of inflicting serious injuries on a baby never tried to comfort the child’s mother at the hospital.
Sandra Stephens, who works for the South Central Ambulance Service, told Southampton Crown Court how the infant was lying on his back on a double bed at a Southampton house where they had been directed following a 999 call.
She said he was very quiet, his eyes were closed and he was motionless.
Mrs Stephens said: “I looked into his eyes and they were rolled into his head. I could just see the whites of his eyes.”
The prosecution alleges that Krzysztof Zwolinski, had “yanked” the child from his car seat where he had been crying and shook him, causing serious injuries to his brain and eyes.
Mrs Stephens said Zwolinski accompanied them to Southampton General Hospital.
She told the court: “The mother arrived 20 minutes later. She was distressed. He was very quiet, he didn’t make any comforting motions towards her.”
Zwolinski, 27, of Pentire Avenue, Shirley, denies causing grievous bodily harm.
