A 57-YEAR-OLD man sustained serious injuries after falling through a roof while on a job.

The incident happened at the Kiln Acre Business Park, Wickham Road, Fareham, where the man had been working on empty units replacing the roofs when he fell 15ft through a skylight.

South Central Ambulance Service said Robert Zwyczyk, from Redbridge, Southampton, suffered a bi-lateral fracture to his wrist, legs and pelvis. He was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.

Mr Zwyczyk had been sub-contracted to do the roofing by Focus Southampton Ltd and was working in a team of three.

Perry Grant, owner of Focus Southampton Ltd, said work had been stopped at the site until an investigation was complete. He said he had visited Mr Zwyczyk in hospital, where he is with his wife and daughter, and that his condition was stable and improving.

South Central Ambulance Service sent a rapid response vehicle which was on the scene within five minutes of the call, which came in shortly after 1.30pm on Wednesday.

The Health and Safety Executive confirmed they are investigating the incident.
