DON'T MISS TOMORROW'S DAILY ECHO FOR A JLS CONCERT EXCLUSIVE

AN MP has demanded an inquiry after fans missed a major pop concert as massive tailbacks hit Hampshire roads.

Winchester MP Steve Brine said he wants organisers and police around one table as soon as possible to explain how the JLS concert featuring Olly Murs and Alexis Jordan descended into a "potentially dangerous farce".

It comes as fans eagerly waiting to see their boy band idols at Matterley Bowl, near Winchester, were caught up in traffic chaos on the northbound M3 and the A31 near Winchester on Friday night.

The Brit-award winning chart-toppers were set to take to the stage in front of thousands at 8.30pm but hundreds of fans were still stuck in traffic jams.

Those who did see the concert were caught up in more jams of more than two hours as the cars tried to clear the site.

On their official Twitter account, JLS said: ''To everyone who had trouble getting out of the Winchester gig we want to thank you again for supporting through the rain.we love you..Marv x.''

But Mr Brine said an investigation into the transport arrangements at the concert needed to be carried out.

He said: "We clearly need to establish the facts but reports reaching me suggest many people who paid not insignificant sums for tickets ending up missing the gig altogether due to problems accessing the site.

"I've had reports of young girls having to be dropped off some distance from the site and running along the road-side and young kids pushing cars out of the mud in the early hours."

The MP added: "I know lots of my young, and not so young, constituents have been looking forward to this event for months. I am extremely disturbed to hear these early reports of what could have turned into a potentially dangerous farce."

JLS fans spoke of chaotic scenes at the venue.

Daily Echo reviewer Shelly Fountain finally got to the overflow car park after 9pm - two and- a-half-hours after she set off from home - only to be turned away because the concert had ended.

She said: "Everyone's wheels were spinning, kids were running out the cars, it was just chaos.

People were heading back towards us saying it had finished and organisers were making people turn around."

Ann Maree Russell, 38, from Hedge End, said she set off at 5.20pm and reached the venue four hours later, missing the show.

She said: "It's a shambles. We got our tickets three months ago and one was a birthday present.

"We've just been told it started early because of the weather so we've missed it."

John Green, from Titchfield, was taking his two daughters to the concert.

He said: "We set off from home at 5.17pm, the satnav said it was 22 miles and four hours later, we are still not there."

One teenager who travelled from Bournemouth for a friend's 13th birthday managed to catch 20 minutes of her favourite band JLS after spending four-and-a-half hours in the car, but left because she couldn't see anything.

Police say there were no reported accidents.

A spokesman told the Daily Echo that the delays are likely to be caused by the volume of traffic heading to the concert as The website of organisers Sound Festivals UK states: ''Where parking facilities are provided on site, it is inevitable, that due to the large number of vehicles, that congestion and delays will occur when entering and leaving.''
