A HAMPSHIRE council has announced it is to hold a workshop to teach people aged over 60 about ''sex in later years''.

The session, entitled Generation Sex, is being run by Portsmouth City Council with the aim of encouraging people of all ages to practice safer sex.

Organisers pledge that those who attend will be able to have frank and honest discussions about the realities of sex for the older generation.

A council spokeswoman said: ''Discussions of older people and sex are largely absent from our culture. Sex over 60 can be largely seen as a taboo subject.

''As part of this year's 60+ festival, a free workshop is being run aimed at exploring the realities of sex in the 21st century.

''Frank, fun and factual, Generation Sex is an informal interactive session designed to inform older residents about the truth of sex in later years.

''Any questions you have will be answered honestly to help you get the most out of your sex life.''

Scott Deacon, who is running the session, added: ''It is all about practising and negotiating safer sex. No matter if you are 16 or 60, and then some, it is all the same.''

The council spokeswoman said proof of age and Portsmouth residency would be required by those attending the session taking place on October 12.
