A CAT has lost an eye after being shot in the head twice with a BB gun.
Six-year-old Toffee is thought to have wandered around in agony for three weeks before finding her way home and being rushed to a vet.
Toffee was exploring Landford Wood on the edge of the New Forest when she was targeted.
Her owners took her to Midforest Vets in Totton, where the badly damaged eye was removed in a 30-minute operation that cost £400.
Toffee was expected to make a good recovery, despite her ordeal.
Toffee is owned by haulage contractor Bob Cartwright, 63, and his partner Ruth Steeds, who have just moved from Landford Wood to Braishfield.
Mr Cartwright said: “When Toffee eventually came home her eye was closed and puffy and I could tell that something was terribly wrong.
“The people responsible caused her to suffer for three weeks – they’re totally despicable.”
