NOBODY could have predicted a ferocious attack that left a mother stabbed to death at the hands of her husband, an inquest heard.

Maria Lakatos, pictured, 37, was found in the kitchen of her Southampton home at Harcourt Road in Bitterne after the frenzied attack by her husband Sandor Lakatos, 38, in July last year.

Sandor, with whom Maria had a nine year old son, was later arrested after he called police to confess to the stabbing.

A subsequent trial heard how the pair had been living apart and had an open relationship in an attempt to save their marriage.

He was sentenced to six and a half years after being found guilty of Maria’s manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Southampton Coroner’s Court heard how Maria’s family in Hungry, who are now bringing up her son, were struggling to come to terms with the outcome of the court case.

Recording a verdict of unlawful killing coroner Keith Wiseman said: “There was absolutely nothing that could have possibly predicted the ferocious attack and the violence that took place.”
