They have urged people not to walk home alone late at night.
The predator is targeting young women who are walking home alone from nightclubs on the busy Tuesday student nights in the Bedford Place and Bevois Valley area of Southampton.
CCTV cameras have caught him walking directly behind a woman he later sexually assaulted.
The first indecent assault happened as an 18-year-old girl made her way through Vernon Walk after leaving a nightclub at around 12.10am on Wednesday, September 21.
Moments later she was grabbed from behind and pulled to the floor by the man who then tried to pull off her clothes.
Detectives know the area was extremely busy with revellers that night, despite the rainy conditions, as it was the start of freshers’ events in the city.
Exactly one week later the same man appears to have struck again, having followed a 19-year-old woman across part of the city before he pounced.
The victim had been in a club in the St Mary’s area and was walking home via Charlotte Place, up Kings Park Road and along Bellevue Terrace where she could be seen on cameras, being closely followed by her attacker.
