HAMPSHIRE has some of the most desirable locations to live in the country, according to a new study.

A number of districts in the county have made it onto the UK’s top 50 list of desirable locations to live in Halifax’s 2011 Quality of Life Survey.

Winchester has made it onto the annual list, at number 29, followed by Fareham at 33, Test Valley at 40 and finally Basingstoke at 47.

The study measures the quality of life that the residents in the districts experience, taking into account jobs, the housing market, education, health and crime, as well as factors like weather, traffic flows and broadband access.

The survey has named Hart in the north of Hampshire as the UK’s number one most desirable location to live; with 95 per cent of residents living in good health and enjoying incomes of 40 per cent above the national average.

The study also found that the sunniest place in the UK was the Isle of Wight, where residents enjoy 37.4 hours of sunshine a week, compared to the countrywide average of 29.7 hours.
