FURIOUS members of a women-only Southampton gym are demanding answers, after it closed without warning.

As reported in Saturday’s Daily Echo, members of TLC, The Ladies Club, in Commercial Road, turned up to the gym on Friday to find the shutters down and a notice on the door, signed by owner Angela Lee.

It stated that the gym had “insufficient funds or assets to continue trading” and would be closing with “immediate effect,” in a move that left hundreds of women out of pocket.

But another gym trading under the same name, in City Street, Winchester, has remained open.

The move has sparked outrage among a host of members from across the city who have demanded a proper explanation from Mrs Lee.

Margaret Williams, 65, who was a member of TLC for almost four years, said: “I’m totally shocked. The thing I’m most annoyed about is that we had no prior notice.”

Another member, Louise Finch, added: “I paid my annual membership of £299 back in August. I need to know, will I receive a refund?

“What’s the reason for the closure?

I want these questions answered.”

Mrs Lee failed to turn up at the gym on Friday morning, leaving her four members of staff to reason with disgruntled members.

And she did not return calls to the Daily Echo yesterday, despite contacting her.
