THE future of the former Millbrook secondary school site in Southampton will be decided by councillors tonight.
Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill will quit the Fairisle Road site for a new purpose-built school on the Five Acre Field nearby, being built to open this September.
But under a 21-year-year agreement with Sport England, that has eight years left to run, the city council must find a way to keep the sports hall and other facilities open or would have to hand back around half of a £1.5m grant used to build it.
Tory council leaders are instead planning to put the management of the facilities, including a fitness suite, gymand external courts, out to tender.
The loss-making Down to Earth Farm and a motor vehicle workshop on the same site are expected to let for free to the Oasis Community Learning, which runs the academy.
The 900-pupil Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill replaced Millbrook Community School and Oaklands Community School, which both closed in August 2008.
