A MAN caused about £15,000 damage after he took a £250,000 powerboat for a joy ride around a Hampshire marina.

Andrew Colman, 21, had argued with his partner and been drinking before he clambered aboard the motor cruiser “G&T”.

Southampton Crown Court heard how he lost control of the boat which “bounced off” the walls of Hythe marina. By the time it came to a stop he had caused more than £12,500 damage to the powerboat and £2,300 worth of damage to a second vessel.

Colman, of Beaulieu Road, Hythe, admitted taking the powerboat with consent and two offences of causing damage. He was jailed for 20 months. The court heard he had applied to Southampton City College to become a chef.
