AN elderly couple had their holiday ruined after learning from their son they had been burgled, Southamp-ton Crown Court heard.
They returned to their home in Fair Oak Road, Eastleigh, to find jewellery stolen.
Drug addict Darren Jones, 34, had forced his way in to steal the jewellery, which had great sentimental value, said prosecutor Kelly Brocklehurst.
Jones, of no fixed abode, admitted burglary. Asking for three offences of receiving to be considered, he was jailed for three years.
Defence barrister Richard Onslow said drugs had blighted his life and previous drug rehabilitation orders had proved unsuccessful, but he recognised he had now reached the stage when he must address it.
Judge Peter Ralls QC told Jones the burglary had had a great effect on his victims.
