A Saints fan has penned a song to help sing his team into the Premier League.

Martin Murphy rewrote the lyrics of Kings of Leon hit Sex on Fire after hearing the song play before his beloved football team came onto the pitch.

“For days afterwards I couldn’t stop humming the words ‘Saints are on fire’,” he said. “And then I thought about sitting down and writing the song in full.”

The song, which is available to download on iTunes, took just half an hour to write.

Martin said: “The lyrics came very easily. We are having a fantastic season and are playing the best football we have played in years – it seems the Adkins diet has really worked.

“The song is just about telling Saints’ story this year and spurring them on to the Premier League.”

The lifelong Saints fan and season ticket holder even got his eight-year-old daughter Dannii to help with the backing vocals.

The St James School pupil said: “I really like singing and I am a big Saints fan. I think they will definitely make it to the Premier League.”

Seeing Saints go up would be a dream come true for Martin.

He said: “It would be great for the team and the city. It has been a long time coming and we really do deserve to go up.”

All money raised from the sale of the track will go to the Hampshire Autistic Society and Action Medical Research.
