Spandau Ballet star Tony Hadley helps raise £7,450 for charity

EIGHTIES pop icon Tony Hadley helped raise £7,450 for charity by headlining a Hampshire fundraiser.

The Spandau Ballet front man took to the mic to perform some eighties classics to raise cash for British Heart Foundation.

The fundraiser was one of many events organised by pub landlords Shaun and Tracy Hopkins after Shaun's stepdad died from a heart attack last year.

The couple, who run The Lapstone pub in Horton Heath, worked with SpecifiCally Events to put on the show, which attracted 300 people, at Hampshire Tennis Club.

As well as the eighties icon, there was a George Michael tribute act Andrew Browning '80s Revolution' and the pub landlord himself was the DJ.

Shaun said: “When my step-father suffered his heart attack last year, we all received a lot of support and advice from the BHF. I wanted to do something to recognise the invaluable work the BHF does and raise vital funds. The concert did exactly that.

“It was an absolutely fantastic night and we wouldn't have been able to raise as much money as we did, if we didn't have the amazing entertainment from Tony Hadley and the tribute acts.

“We're extremely grateful to Tony, as not only did he help to draw in the crowds, but he provided his services free of charge, because his family have also been affected by heart disease. We'd like to thank everyone who helped behind-the-scenes and who attended on the evening to make it such a great night and to raise this fantastic amount.”

Not The Echo's fault on this occasion, the tickets sold out within days of going on sale, it was very important that the friends and family of Shauns step-dad could attend and pay their respects whilst raising money for such a great cause.

I would also like to add that as the owner of SpecifiCally Events I was involved but I was working for the Lapstone at the time, not as SpecifiCally Events.

It was a fab night that no one will be forgetting for a long time!
