A TEENAGER was attacked with a knife during a street robbery in Southampton.

The 18-year-old suffered a cut after the robber lashed out at her with a “vegetable knife”.

The victim told police how she was attacked while walking through an underpass from Old Northam Road into St Mary’s Road, next to the Afro Caribbean centre at around 2am on Tuesday.

She was approached by the man who demanded her phone and when she refused struggled with her before lashing out with the blade, causing a small cut to her chest. She managed to run off.

The man is described as black, aged 17 to 19, about 5ft 3in to 5ft 5in, of heavy build and wearing a dark hoodie and dark bottoms, possibly a tracksuit.

Appealing for witnesses, investigating officer DC Paddy Coughlin added: “I’d like to remind people to try to walk with someone else late at night and to be careful about having a mobile phone on display.”
