PEOPLE power has overthrown a New Forest District Council proposal for a retail development on Ringwood’s long-stay car park.
Members of Ringwood Town Council, traders and residents have welcomed the U-turn over plans to put a retail development on the site, which featured in the district’s 25-year plan.
Instead they propose to earmark an area in the main Furlong car park for the development.
Chairman of Ringwood Traders Group Jim Stride said: “Quite frankly a retail area in the long-stay car park would not have worked.
“The traders are really happy the proposal has been changed.”
The decision comes after ten Ringwood town councillors attended a private meeting with officers and a Cabinet member at the district council, outraged by the district’s proposal in its sites and development management development plan document.
