THEY are travelling thousands of miles and spending hundreds of pounds to be part of what they hope will be one of the greatest days in Saints’ history.

This devoted group of fans will clock up more than 2,000 air miles as they make their journey from Malta to watch their team’s crunch game on Saturday.

Eight supporters from the Southampton FC Malta fan club will touch down on the south coast tomorrow ahead of Southampton’s make-or-break clash with Coventry.

A win for Nigel Adkins’ men would secure their return to the Premier League after a seven-year absence.

But anything other than all three points would leave the door open for West Ham to steal the second automatic promotion place after they defeated Leicester City on Monday.

Jon Lloyd, 44, who has organised the trip, said all the group are confident Saints can finish off their charge for the Premier League in style.

“There are certainly a few nerves among us but a lot of excitement,”

he said.

“We have been watching all the televised games out here, but to actually be there when we seal promotion would be fantastic.

“We all think Saints will win on Saturday and we are already looking forward to seeing a lot more televised games next year in the Premier League.”

Jon, who was born in Hedge End but moved to Malta ten years ago to live with partner Lilyen Fiedler, believes Saints already have promotion “in the bag”.

He added: “Even if we only draw, West Ham have got to do a lot to put four goals past Hull.

“Obviously we would have preferred it if it had been sorted out against Middlesbrough on Saturday so that we could relax and enjoy this weekend.

“But as long as the players keep calm and play how they have been playing for the majority of the season, then we will get the win we need.”
