Man in court accused of child rape
A Southampton man has appeared in court accused of raping a child under the age of 13.
Darren Macrell, 45, of Wilton Avenue, is facing one count of rape against a child and another of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
He was charged by detectives investigating an alleged incident in the Polygon area of the city on Saturday.
Macrell yesterday appeared at Southampton Magistrates’ Court for a first hearing.
Because of the severity of the charges, JPs automatically referred the case to crown court.
Macrell has been remanded in custody to next appear at Southampton Crown Court on June 26.
