THOUSANDS of patients of a Hampshire doctors’ surgery will be moved to a new building as part of a multi-million pound refurbishment.

Fareham Health Centre in Osborn Road is set to get a new roof, heating system and improved reception in a £2m makeover which is scheduled to finish in November.

One of the GP practices that currently uses the site, Dr Jordan and Partners, will relocate permanently to the Highlands Medical Centre in Highlands Road, Fareham.

The move will affect 6,000 patients who were given the option of moving with their current GP, joining a different doctors’ surgery or signing up for the Centre Practice, which is staying at Fareham Health Centre.

Dr Barbara Jordan says an extension to the Highlands Road practice will allow it to accommodate the Dr Jordan and Partners patients moving from Fareham Health Centre.

She said: “We have more than 16,000 patients registered across both sites, and the extension at Highlands will enable us to consolidate all our resources on a single site enabling us to continue to offer high quality care in an efficient manner. We appreciate that this means that some patients have slightly further to travel, and we do sincerely apologise for this.

“We are working together with Fareham Community Transport to assist patients with mobility problems.”

The British Red Cross Medical Equipment Service’s base at the health centre will also be moved to Fareham Community Hospital, Sarisbury, within the next few months.

Patients of the Centre Practice will benefit from a larger treatment room, more consulting rooms and a new minor ops suite. Dr Jordan and Partners is expected to move in August.
