A RETIRED firefighter has been convicted of sex offences against two girls.

Basil Burton, chairman of the National Romany Rights Association, was found guilty of three offences after a trial at Southampton Crown Court.

Judge Peter Henry adjourned sentence until June 8.

Burton, of Dugdell Close, Ferndown, had denied seven sex charges. He was convicted of two counts of indecency on one child and one of sexually assaulting the other.

He was acquitted on the other charges.
