A man has been charged with two counts of attempted murder after a mum and baby were left hospitalised.

Roger Weir, 45, will appear before Southampton magistrates today following an incident in Eastleigh in which the 27-year-old woman and a 19-month-old baby were both injured.

Weir, of Slough Lane, in Poole, was arrested after the incident in Alexander Square in Eastleigh in the early hours of May 7 and as reported in the Daily Echo has been in hospital since getting treatment for injuries.

Police said the woman was left with serious slash injuries.

It is alleged Weir administered drugs to the baby.

Both have made a good recovery, police said.
