A CAMPAIGN to remember soldiers at a former Hampshire barracks is gaining momentum, according to organisers.
Steve Barrett and Julie-Ann Rosser have been leading the charge to create a memorial at the Peninsula Barracks in Winchester to former members of the Royal Green Jackets regiment.
The pair have held talks with the building’s management about their plans and said they were positive.
Mr Barrett, 56, who trained at the barracks in the 1970s, said: “The residents are very happy for us to put in some memorial chairs and a heritage plaque.
“We wanted a quiet place for reflection and something that would bring a lasting tribute to the barracks and highlight the work of the regiment.”
The total cost of the project is understood to be about £120,000 with the campaign raising funds for a year.
