An 11-year-old boy who suffered from fits caused by panic attacks died on a family holiday in Greece, an inquest heard.

Harvey Ashworth had been suffering for more than a year from the fits which caused him to stop breathing for up to a minute, the hearing was told.

The sports-loving schoolboy was diagnosed as having anxiety issues, including about his separation from his mother, Tricia Griffin, who lived in Spain.

The inquest was told that Harvey, who lived with his father, Luke Ashworth, and his second wife Georgia, in Warsash, would often be affected more frequently by the fits in the run-up to visiting his mother.

But Mr Ashworth said that his son had been relaxed and happy as they headed off to Thesprotia, Greece, for the two-week holiday, although he did suffer two minor fits on a coach to the hotel last July. Harvey was relaxed and happy as he went to bed that night. But at 8am, the couple found him unconscious and all efforts to revive him failed.

A post-mortem failed to determine a cause of death but experts believe the fits may have been caused by epilepsy.

Portsmouth coroner David Horsley recorded a verdict of death by natural causes.
