HAMPSHIRE enjoyed a royal presence at the Diamond Jubilee service of thanksgiving at Winchester Cathedral today. The Earl of Wessex attended the packed service with around 1,000 invited guests that marked the start of the county’s celebrations of the royal milestone.
Other prominent attendees included Mary Fagan, Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire, ken Thornber, the leader of Hampshire County Council and the Dean, the Very Rev James Atwell.
Representatives of dozens of county organisations were also invited. The emphasis was on recognising the often-unsung work of volunteers.
A jazz band from the Hampshire County Council Music Service played on the Outer Close as guests started to arrive. The service included the national Diamond Jubilee Prayer and music from a military band.
