A DISABLED man was fleeced of his life savings by a man who was staying with him.
David Mann, 50, was staying with William Edge after he moved to Southampton from Birmingham, where he had been dating Mr Edge’s niece.
The pair had decided to live apart temporarily and Mr Edge had offered to put Mr Mann up in his Southampton sheltered home for a while, Southampton Crown Court was told.
But Mann repaid his kindness by taking Mr Edge’s bank card and withdrawing money, prosecutor Eleanor Fargin explained.
He also hid the bank statements showing he had stolen more than £4,000. His crime was discovered after he had moved out, but he burgled the property while Mr Edge, who uses a wheelchair, was at bingo in November last year.
Mann, of Thorold Road, Southampton, was jailed for 12 months after admitting burglary and two counts of fraud.
