HE must be the luckiest moggie in Britain – after surviving a 118 mile trip from Southampton to Cardiff clinging to the underside of a train.

Rail workers were stunned when they discovered the frightened feline with no obvious injuries despite his non-stop journey to Wales.

Christened “Thomas” after his freight train adventure the young male cat was found by a worker at the Freightliner Limited dockyards in Cardiff, who held onto the black shorthair cat until RSPCA staff arrived.

The feline was then taken to the animal welfare charity’s Merthyr Tydfil clinic for vaccinations and for a vet check-up.

He is now being cared for at a cattery.

Despite not being fitted with a microchip the RSPCA do not believe Thomas is a stray due to his good health and friendly nature.

The animal welfare charity is now keen to find his owners and has appealed for anyone who knows anything about him to get in touch.

RSPCA inspector Simon Evans said: “What a story! This cat has surely used up almost all of his lives by now and it is quite u n b e l i e v - able what he has gone through.

“Despite being understandably a little shaken after his escapade Thomas really is a lovely and friendly cat and although he’s not microchipped he’s in good health and so we are wondering if there is an owner out there looking for him.

“We are therefore appealing for anyone who recognises the description or picture of Thomas, especially from the Southampton or quite possibly the Cardiff area, to come forward and get in touch with us.”
