THE PSP Southampton Boat Show will be back in September, with some new additions.

For the first time, guests will be able to test their sailing skills and experience the thrill of racing a round-the-world yacht aboard the Whitbread 60 Solent Sailing Experience.

For the less energetic visitors, there will be the chance to watch top sailors compete to be best in show, racing in the PSP Southampton Boat Show National Inter Club Team Racing Championships.

There will also be the first opportunity to see the Alexandra Shakleton, which is about to replicate the gruelling 800-mile Southern Ocean voyage that took place in 1916, in one of history’s greatest rescue missions.

But as well as the new additions to proceedings, the old favourites have not been forgotten.

The eagerly anticipated Ladies’ Day will make a return, with the Daily Echo-backed competition for Best Dressed Lady set to be as hotly contested as ever.

Other highlights of the 2011 show included the Great British Oyster Festival, a Sea Kitchen Theatre headed by celebrity chef Shaun Rankin and tours of the impressive HMS Bulwark, the UK’s newest class of warship.

Running from September 14-23, the show will exhibit the best the UK leisure marine industry has to offer, with hundreds of exhibitors expected to flock to the city.

Last year’s event brought 110,000 visitors to the stands of almost 600 different exhibitors.
