WORLD class stunts from horses in blockbuster films, live bands and classic children’s entertainment are just a few of the attractions in a week-long programme of events lined up for a Hampshire village.

The first Hedge End Carnival was held in 1921 and every year since thousands have attended to enjoy the fun.

A week full of events starts today with a quiz.

There will be activities each day, including a whist drive, a guided walk, a dog show, children’s fun sports and bingo.

The streets will be packed with crowds on Saturday, July 7 for the annual grand carnival procession. It starts at 2.15pm from St John’s Road recreation ground.

The star attraction will be a spectacular performance put on by Dolbadarn Film Horses, including one horse that appeared in the Steven Spielberg film War Horse. They will demonstrate stunts and tricks used in that film and |others.

Other attractions include live bands, a classic bike show, Solent Accordions, Pugh’s Punch and Judy, children’s competitions, painting and Lego modelling.

The carnival court will be made up of queen Megan King, senior queen Pauline Lawrence, princesses Emma Tierney, Charlie Killen, Alysia Bottomley and prince Bertie Killen.

One of the organisers Holly Jones said: “We are so excited. One horse coming starred in War Horse. There are so many fantastic events, we are going to be swamped I think.”
