A MAN has been stabbed in the leg during a fight in a Southampton street.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a large group of men were involved in a “melee” in the Bursledon Road and Lydgate Road area of the city last night.

When officers arrived at around 10.30pm they found a 31-year-old man with a wound to his leg.

DC Chris Moss said: “This is a nasty assault and one that could have potentially been fatal.

“At present we believe this to be an isolated incident, however I’d like to remind the public to be vigilant.

“We believe there may have been a lot of vehicles driving past as it is believed this incident ended up in the middle of Bursledon Road and we would like to hear if you have seen anything, no matter how insignificant you think this may be.”

One of the men in the group was in a hooded red jacket with white sleeves aged between 16 and 18, while another was wearing a stripy jumper.

Two boys, 13 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent and have now been bailed until September 26, pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information should call DC Moss at Bitterne CID on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
