A DISABLED man who was killed after the wheelchair he was in was hit by a car on the Isle of Wight, had been left paralysed after being involved in a road accident eight years ago.
Andy O'Neill, 32, was pronounced dead after he was struck by the 4x4 vehicle in Godshill.
Dad of two Mr O'Neill was a leading drink drive campaigner after he was involved in an accident while riding his motorbike when he was over the alcohol limit on Christmas Day 2004.
As a result he was left paralysed from the neck down but used the experience to educate others of the consequences of drink driving.
In 2007 he appeared in a campaign on the Isle of Wight with the words “I had a few beers and ended up paralytic.”
As previously reported by the Daily Echo a 27-year-old motorist was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and bailed following the accident on Saturday.
