A Southampton woman is still in hospital a week after being seriously injured at the spot where a cyclist was killed two months ago.

The 57-year-old was a pillion passenger on a silver-coloured Yamaha bike that was in collision with a van on the B3056 Lyndhurst to Applemore road.

She was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital with a suspected fractured skull. Her injuries were later assessed as being serious but not lifethreatening.

The bike was ridden by a 52- year-old Totton man who suffered a broken wrist.

Police say the van driver, a 63-year-old Hythe woman, was arrested on suspicion of careless driving. She has since been bailed until October 25, pending further inquiries.

The accident happened last Tuesday at the same set of crossroads where Southampton cyclist Mark Brummell, 53, was killed in an accident in May.

As reported in the Daily Echo, a “ghost bike” has been placed at the scene as a memorial to Mr Brummell.
