DAN McMillan called on his handball teammates to show their British Bulldog spirit when they face Argentina on Thursday after suffering their second defeat of London 2012.

Just as against France, McMillan and co found Sweden had too much firepower in their ranks as they fell to a 41-19 defeat in the Copper Box.

A poor first-half display was proceeded by a much grittier second 30 minutes in which Great Britain showed their fighting spirit as tempers flared.

And McMillan has demanded they transfer that aggression through to their clash against Argentina, who represent their best chance of a maiden Olympic victory.

He said: “To concede that many goals in the first half was unacceptable but there was a reaction from the players and we played much better in the second half.

“We needed a bit more fire because you can’t afford to do that for only 30 minutes at this level. Against these sort of teams you make mistakes and you get punished straightaway."
