A MAN killed himself as he struggled to recover from a serious car accident, an inquest heard.

Charles Le Rougetel, 46, was discovered dead by his wife Sarah at their home in Knights Bank Road, Fareham .

Police said a trail of blood lead through the house to the garage, where Mr Le Rougetel’s body was found with a single stab wound.

Portsmouth Coroner’s Court heard that Mr Le Rougetel had been involved in a head-on collision in July 2011 and had to have his spleen and part of his stomach removed as a result.

He had spent six months in hospital after the crash and was still recovering when he killed himself.

The inquest heard that Mr Le Rougetel was also awaiting a court hearing having been charged with driving without due care and attention in relation to the accident, to which he intended to plead guilty.

His wife told the court Mr Le Rougetel was in a positive frame of mind before he died.

Coroner David Horsley said he believed the car accident had played a part in Mr Le Rougetel’s death.

He recorded a verdict of suicide.
