A former Hampshire school could be transformed into retirement flats.

Plans have been put forward to convert and extend Netley Court School in Victoria Road, Netley, creating up to 57 assisted living apartments.

But residents have raised concerns that the seafront development, which is in an official conservation area, will cause parking issues and could cause structural problems on the cliff edge.

Gareth Williams, who lives nearby, said: “This is a high density development and excavations could be unsuitable.

The site originally housed Netley Court House and was built in the mid-19th century.

It then became a school for children with special educational needs but closed in 2006 and the buildings have been empty ever since.

Developers, the Highwood Group, say that the new flats will enhance the area.
