TWO teenagers have been arrested in connection with a one-night spree of vandalism in a Hampshire town.

A fire was started, garden ornaments were smashed, a bus stop was damaged and sheds were broken into across Eastleigh .

In total,11 incidents were reported to the police.

Police believe the trail of destruction may have started when a garden umbrella was stolen from a home in Starling Square at 2am on Tuesday.

The vandals then moved on to Nightingale Road, where a resident reported seeing two people trying to smash up a bus stop.

There was more damage in Woodpecker Close – where a brick wall was targeted and in Greenfinch Close a homeowner looked out his window to see two people smashing a plastic bird ornament against the ground.

Officers have also linked damage to a greenhouse in Linnett Square to the other vandalism, along with an attempted break in of a shed and the theft of footballs from a garden in Kestrel Road.

Another shed was broken into in Magpie Lane, where garden shears were stolen and there was further criminal damage to a gate in Nightingale Avenue.

Residents living near Norwood Primary School reported hearing smashing glass at around 4.25am and when police investigated they found a mattress was on fire in a nearby alleyway. A garage window had also been broken.

A 13-year-old boy from Eastleigh and a 16-year-old boy from Southampton were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and arson.

They were released on bail and will have to report back to the police on Friday, September 14.
