A HAMPSHIRE toddler who had severe medical problems died due to natural causes, an inquest heard yesterday.

Triplet Patrick Doyle, 2, died on October 13, 2011, in Sosnowiec, Poland after his mother Sylvia had taken him to visit his grandparents there.

The court heard how Patrick, of Truro Rise, Bishopstoke , was born 12 weeks premature and suffered from a variety of problems including cerebral palsy. He had not developed normally would and struggled to move and support his head.

The inquest heard he was found face down in his cot by his mother, and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

Dr Bhumita Vadgama, pathologist at Southampton General Hospital who carried out a post-mortem examination, said there was no clear cause of death but that Patrick’s medical problems may have caused a seizure which led to heart failure.

She said: “It’s possible he had a seizure, which are quite common among children with cerebral palsy, and it is quite common for such seizures to lead to death.”

The inquest heard both Polish and Hampshire police had investigated the death and found no suspicious circumstances.

Deputy Coroner for Central Hampshire, Simon Burge, recorded a verdict of death due to natural causes.
