A Hampshire teenager has paddled into the history books – by being the youngest person to ever row across the English Channel.

Harry Uglow, 15, from Botley, completed the 25.5 mile challenge in four-and-a-half hours.

He battled fog and five foot waves as he rowed from England to France.

Harry, who started rowing in 2007, was raising money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, who support youngsters with serious illnesses and disabilities.

He decided to support the charity after his younger brother Oliver, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in 2008, was granted his wish to go to Universal Studios in the USA in 2009.

Oliver has since recovered but spent more than five months in hospital battling the illness.

Harry said: ''It was a great challenge and I feel incredibly happy to have done it.

"I'm looking forward to resting now though.'

''I think the work that Make-A-Wish does to help young people who are fighting illnesses is absolutely incredible.

“I have seen first-hand the lift that the promise of a wish gives children and that in turn really helps families cope better as they see their child feeling happier.''
