A road in Whiteley that was closed after a serious accident has re-opened.

Police say that the stretch of Rookery Avenue between Yew Tree Drive and Whiteley Way is now fully open to traffic.

It was closed from 9.20am this morning, after a woman driving a Peugeot collided with a traffic island.

Motorists faced long delays in the area as emergency services worked to clear the accident.

The woman was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
