HAMPSHIRE police today revealed it is stepping up efforts to identify a man who they want to speak to in connection with the murder of a Southampton pensioner by projecting his image on buildings in the city.
To coincide with the four week anniversary of 85-year-old Delia Hughes’ death, officers will be trying to increase awareness about the man they want to speak to by projecting CCTV images of him onto buildings in the Woolston area of Southampton where he was last seen.
Bluetooth messaging will also be used by officers to circulate details of the man in the hope that someone picking will be able to identify him.
The appeal poster will also be displayed by the force’s Marine Unit during the upcoming PSP Southampton Boat Show , while cinemas in the city are also screening the man’s description and images to their audiences prior to the main feature film.
Detective Superintendent Tony Harris said: “Despite saturating the area with a description and images of this man through the local media, social media, the distribution of appeal leaflets and by displaying posters, it has became clear from our house to house enquiries that not everyone is aware of our interest in this man.
“We have therefore had to look at alternative communication channels to bring this to the attention of as many members of the public that we can.
“ By sending out Bluetooth messages and projecting images onto buildings, we hope to achieve this. We also appreciate the support being provided by the local cinemas as this too enables us to potentially reach an even greater number of people.”
