VILLAGERS will have a second chance to view controversial plans for the biggest windfarm in Hampshire.

Developer EDF Energy Renewables want to build up to 17 wind turbines on farmland at Bullington Cross, near Sutton Scotney.

The turbines would be up to 125m tall – making them some of the tallest structures in the county. However they would be capable of generating 34 MW of clean energy, enough to power 15,800 homes.

The plans will be on display in Victoria Hall on Saturday, September 29 between 2pm and 5pm.

Officials from the company have agreed to take part in a public question and answer session between 5pm and 6pm to be chaired by Iain Henderson, chairman of Wonston Parish Council.

Parish chiefs asked for a second exhibition after the first in Whitchurch last July was arranged at short notice and few locals were able to attend.

Mr Henderson said: β€œIt is so more people can have a look at what EDF is proposing and have the opportunity to ask questions. Because time has moved on, I think people will have done some research into wind farms and be able to ask some searching questions.”

The parish council has expressed its initial concerns, including noise, impact on wildlife, the number and height of turbines. However it is waiting until after the exhibition and results of an environmental impact assessment before submitting a formal response to Winchester City Council.

Mr Henderson said the parish council needed to represent the views of parishioners and be fully informed of the facts before coming to a view.

Darren Cuming, development manager for EDF Energy Renewables, said the company will review feedback before finalising the scheme and submitting a planning application.

EDF hopes to start building work in September 2014.

Hampshire has few wind farms. The nearest at Kirton Farm, near Sparsholt, has three 18-metre tall turbines.
