IT is the bizarre idea a businessman hopes can make him a fortune.
Inventor Ali Ganjavian hopes his new creation will revolutionise the daytime powernap.
Called the Ostrich Pillow, it’s a cross between a luxury pillow and a balaclava and offers the chance to rest your head and hands inside a warm enclosed pillow and have forty winks at work or while you’re out.
Romsey-born Mr Ganjavian hopes his pillow, will catch on worldwide.
After just a week of being put on sale the 33-year-old says he has already had 500 orders for the £50 pillows.
But Mr Ganjavian says his firm needs a total of £70,000 to cover manufacturing and design costs and has issued a plea for backing.
A former Embley Park School pupil, who also studied at Eastleigh College, he co-founded his firm Karamura Ganjavian Studios or KG Studios with a university friend and it now has offices in America, France, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.
The idea to create the pillow came to Mr Ganjavian, who now lives in Madrid, Spain, after he got tired at work.
He said: “We spend many hours working all day and sleep is an essential part of our day. I thought why not create a product that can help us unwind at work.”
It got its name, said Mr Ganjavian, from the way ostriches put their head in the sand.
He added: “It is a product that makes you smile, when you see it.”
KG Studios are no strangers to the world of invention. Since they were established in 2000 they have designed a vast array of different productions, including a “Deskshell”, which offers privacy to computer users in open-office environments.
