POLICE are hunting the driver of a Skoda Fabia who drove off after causing a crash on a Hampshire motorway.

The car pulled out in front of a motorbike on the southbound M271 near Southampton, forcing the bike to hit the central reservation and injuring the rider and pillion passenger.

The bike, a Triumph Rocket, was driven by a 55- year-old, and his passenger was a 50-year-old woman, both from Ventnor, Isle of Wight, and they sustained minor injuries.

The incident happened on the M271, near to the roundabout at the junction with the M27, on Sunday, at about 12.55pm.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service sent water tenders from Eastleigh, Winchester and St Mary’s and a rescue engine from Redbridge, and firefighters were involved in a clean-up of the road.

Any witnesses should contact PC Lara Montgomery at Totton roads policing unit on 101.
