AS the days draw shorter and farmers bring in the last of this summer's produce, Winchester celebrates the best of Hampshire's farming and agriculture this weekend.

There will be something for everyone at Winchester Cathedral's harvest festival, including a birds of prey demonstration, harvest themes crafts, horse drawn wagon rides, face painting, Morris dancing, live music and a chance to meet farm animals.

Sparsholt College, The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution and the National Farmers Union will be displaying their produce, and the Hampshire farmer's market will be selling their usual range of local goods.

The event will run into this evening with a BBQ and harvest country dance.

Food will be a highlight again tomorrow as the Dean hosts a two-course harvest lunch, made with fresh seasonal local produce.

Diners will also be treated to a talk by Julian Gibbons, Chairman of the Hampshire branch of the National Farmers Union.

The event will come to a close with a special county harvest festival service, starting at 3:30pm tomorrow, which will include an interview by newscaster and television presenter, Alistair Stewart, and talks by all three representatives of the agricultural community and the Bishop of Winchester, the Right Reverend Tim Dakin.

To buy tickets for tonight's country dance, at £5 for adults and £2.50 for children, or for tomorrow's lunch, at £13.95, contact Winchester Cathedral on 01962 857 275 or visit: www.winchester-cathedral.org.uk.
