THOUSANDS of students took to the streets of Southampton last night for an evening of drinking and partying that went without a hitch.
Students from the University of Southampton and Solent Southampton University donned their Carnage t-shirts for the notorious organised pub crawl through the city centre.
However, while previous years has seen drunken behaviour cause outrage among residents, including one young person seen urinating on the Cenotaph in Watts Park, this year's event passed without any major incidents, with police confirming that there were no arrests made.
Beefed up security by organisers, which saw 12 security guards working until 4am, including two posted on the Cenotaph and another guarding the Titanic Engineers' Memorial, ensured any trouble was quickly suppressed.
Those students too drunk to continue the crawl had their t-shirts spray painted with a black “X” to indicate to other bars along the route to refuse entry.
But most were in high spirits, singing in queues, writing messages on each other's t-shirts and there was plenty of friendly rivalry between the two universities.
